t-ball career

Kaylea has continued her t-ball career this year. It’s amazing what a few hits off of the pitcher and Chic Fil A bribery can do. We have enjoyed playing this season. I would say that she is probably just a little too young to really enjoy it. I can say that I am not planning on coaching until she is at least 8 years old! Kaylea has almost managed to hit off of the pitcher every game. It is total luck, as we do not practice in between games. I am shocked that more 2 parent families don’t help out at the games. You could almost you a parent per child in the field. However, we make the best of it. The best part of the game is when it is over…Snack time! I think the kids like it the most.

fun with friends

Last Wednesday, we had a playdate at Erin's house.  We decided to have a pitch-in and make a night of it.  Erin got out the bounce house.  The kids played inside and outisde and seemed to have a great time.

memorial day weekend

You have to love a long weekend!  We've been busy bees, and of course, I didn't get too many pictures.  Kaylea has slept until 9am the past two days, so I'd definitely say it was fun for her!  On Friday we pretty much just hung out.  Jordy and I had to run to the bank and have some our closing paperwork notarized.  We watched part of the softball super regional and Kaylea modeled my heals!

Saturday we headed to the Strawberry Festival in Starlight.  We ran into Amy, Art, and Alton so we ate with them.  Kaylea & Alton played on the playground before we started around the festival.  She played a few games and  bought a new headband and then played in a bouncy house and did the soapbox derby.  She had to make sand art before we left for the day.  Saturday night we went to a movie and out to dinner with some friends and Kaylea got to play with Nana for the evening.

Sunday felt like Saturday (I wish it were that way everyday).  My mom made lunch for us and then we decided to go look at some more houses.  Kaylea loves checking them out.  She lets us know if the rooms are large enough.

Monday we planned to go to the zoo.  The Hamm's joined us.  We decided to become members this year because we were thinking Kaylea would really like it.  I'm glad we joined because she had a blast.  Not only did she enjoy the splash park (which was a given), but she absolutely loved seeing all of the animals.  We were going to head out and Kaylea insisted we see the meerkats.  The animals were performing for us today.  After several hours at the zoo, we headed to Chic Fil A for some lunch and play time.

We finished Memorial Day weekend with dinner at Nana & Pop's house.  After we ate, Kaylea played at the park while Jordy & Brenden played basketball.  Kaylea did not want to leave, but mommy & daddy thought she was getting tired and needed some rest, so we headed home.  What a wonderful weekend!

final move from lafayette

Another weekend has come and gone - this one wasn't as fun as normal.  Jordy and I went to the UL women's softball game on Friday night and Kaylea played with Shannan.  It was fun to watch.

We woke up early Saturday morning to celebrate Pop's birthday.  We had breakfast at A Nice Restaurant (or the clock restaurant, as Kaylea calls it).  After that we hit the road to make our final move from Lafayette.  It's a long drive.  It's even longer when you know when you get there you have to load a uHaul and drive back.  However, we did it!  We even got to have dinner with friends before heading back south.  I'm glad the moving is over, but I'm ready for a house!

We spent a lot of Sunday outside.  Kaylea planted flowers with my mom.  We rode her bike.  We played at the park.  We're never ready for the weekends to end!

mother's day 2013

Mother's Day was pretty laid back, but I have nothing to complain about.  Jordy and Kaylea played while I went to the gym and tanned.  Jordy cooked, and by cooked, I mean he picked up the spaghetti shop and picked up a Dairy Queen cake.  We had mimi and nana over for lunch.  Kaylea was a holy terror!  She didn't get enough sleep the night before, but I was just trying to enjoy the moment for what it was.

I got to take a nap; Jordy got to take a nap.  We played with Kaylea.  Kaylea made me a wonderful card.  It was one of the first things she has written.  She is just starting to show an interest in writing letters.  It brought tears to my eyes.  She made it when she spent the evening with Mimi.

Finally, I finished the night by taking my mom and cousin to Bingo.  We didn't win, but we had a great time!

anniversary pictures

Jordy and I have a tradition of getting our pictures taken on or around our anniversary each year.  Most years we try to come up with a theme or do something out of town.  Jordy really wanted to do something with the Louisville Cardinals because they won the basketball tournament this year.  I asked our friend Erin to take our pictures.  She has been taking some photography classes and I have noticed how good she is getting, so I decided to take advantage of her before she gets well known and starts charging crazy prices (haha, kidding).  She suggested Speed Park in Sellersburg. I wasn't sure how it would look with our bright red shirts, but I think they turned out fabulous.  What do you think?

holiday world 2013

After our anniversary pictures on Saturday, we headed to Holiday World.   I love how spontaneous our family can be.  The weather was perfect.  We wore sweatshirts most of the day.  It was a little more crowded I had expected, but we never had to wait too long to ride anything.  I was surprised at how long we stayed.  We arrived around 12:15 and ended up staying until 6:00.

Kaylea had a blast.  If you will let her ride a ride, she will.  She cried when she wasn't tall enough to ride one of the rides.  Mommy should have researched a little better.  We rode a lot or rides and stuck around for story time with Santa.

We stopped Ryan's on the way home.  Kaylea likes it because she can try all different foods and make her own plate.  We had a blast!!!

half crazy

Derby weekend, I ran my second half marathon in 8 days.  I had originally planned to run this one with my friend Jen, but decided to run the one the prior week, too :)  She didn't train as much as she had hoped so I was thinking we were going to run/walk the whole thing.  Boy did she fool me - we ended up running the entire first 9 miles!  We only ran/walked the end.  We did awesome.  It was a lot easier to run while talking to someone (even though I did most of the talking - haha).

Jordy and I spent the night in Indy the night before and had dinner with The Zuercher family at Cheeseburger in Paradise.  I may have drank one less drink had I realized we were going to run so much of the race.

I prefered the Indy course to Louisville.  I thought it would be amazing running the speedway.  It was cool at first, but 2.5 miles around a track is just 2.5 miles around a track!  I may recruit some people to run it with me next year.

moments

What have I created?  When Kaylea gets out of the bath she has to have th following:  powder, lotion, dental floss, body splash, and deodorant!

Also, I try to make a big deal of weekends around here since I work all week.  When I pick K up from school on Fridays I always say, "do you know what today is?"  And she says no.  When I say it's the weekend, she squeals with excitment!  I say, do you know what that means and she says, "lots of play time." When she woke up this morning at 9:30, she said, "hey mama, is it still the weekend?"  Love that girl!

first (and maybe last) t-ball game

Kaylea had her first t-ball game on Thursday.  Let me start by saying that she never asked to sign up for this.  I signed her up.  I loved playing and thought I would start her early.  She is actually 2 months too young to play, but I asked and they said she could join the team.  We had 2 practices and she said she didn't like it.  However, we were signed up to bring snacks to the first game, so I wanted to have her at least try one game.

When she got home from school, she through a full on tantrum about putting on her uniform.  She wanted to wear a dress, not short.  She didn't want to go to the game.  Could she just watch?  I told her that she could just watch.  I told her that we didn't have to go to anymore games if she really didn't want to.  She finally calmed down and we headed to the game. She asked if we could go to Chic Fil A after the game, so I thought it would be a good time to bribe her.  I told her if she played in the game we could go to Chic Fil A. It worked.

Kaylea played.  She hit off of the tee her first time up to bat.  She played in the field.  She picked grass.  She ate grass (nice).  Her next time up to bat, I suggested she let the coach pitch to her.  I did not think there was a chance she would be able to hit, based on our practices.  She missed the first pitch, but she actually hit the second pitch.  She ran to first base and was so excited when she got there that she squealed!

Needless to say, we ended the night at Chic Fil A.  Kaylea said she had fun and wants to go back next week, but I guess we'll see how it goes!  I stole these pictures from Erin :)
