Double Date - Dinner & A Movie

Jordy scored some tickets to the UL football game this past Saturday.  I really didn't care to go.  I have already gone to one game this year, and I'm not a huge fan.  I figured he would have more fun with a friend, so I told him to take someone.  That means some time with Kaylea.  I was surprised at what she wanted to do.  She wanted to go to Tomo & see Free Birds, and she wanted me to invite her friend, Lucas.

We met at Tomo and enjoyed dinner.  Kaylea really isn't into the food, but she loves talking to the cook while he prepares the food.  She loves that they will make her a scrambled egg, and she loves eating the nuggets.  We have had excellent cooks the last two times and they have entertained Kaylea and been great at having conversations with her.

We also went to see Free Birds.  Kaylea sat in my lap most of the time.  I actually thought she was going to fall asleep watching the movie, but she didn't.  When we got home, I let her sleep in our bed (we have only done this a handful of times and she usually prefers her bed anyway).  She ended up staying up until about 10:30 before crashing in daddy's spot!

Soda Stream

My friends and I are always applying to host house parties.  This time, we all applied and we all won a Soda Stream Party!  We decided to save time and money and host together.  We never imagined that nearly everyone we invited would show up!  I believe we had about 37 people in the Hamm basement.  I had a great time, the kids had a great time, and I enjoyed using the new Soda Stream machine.  I have actually always wanted one, but assumed it would be a gadget I never used, so this was the best way to get it!

Maine - part 2

Sunday was a fun day for the kids.  We started off with a big breakfast, complete with Maine blueberry pancakes.  We also woke up to snow, so after eating, we went outside to play.  There was just enough to go out to play in.  I predicted Kaylea would last 3-5 minutes, but she stayed out for a good half hour.  Her favorite part - eating the snow off of everything!!!

My one request while in Maine was to eat at a restaurant called Governor's.  I remember it being yummy with even yummier dessert.  Just as I was about to order Kaylea something from the kid's menu, I saw they had meat loaf.  I knew that would be her choice.  It was as good as I remember.  We left with a slice of pie, a no bake cookie, and a huge peanut butter cup to take home to daddy.

Next on the agenda was the Maine Discovery Center - this is similar to the Indy Children's Museum.  We played here for a couple of hours.  Kaylea said her favorite thing was the giant set of teeth.  Kaylea used the $10 Mimi gave her to buy a stuffed animal for her and Brenden - I was proud of her for sharing.

The kids ended the evening with a picnic in the living room watching Tangled while the adults had quiet dinner along with a glass of wine.  We were also able to get in a game of Scattegories.  Kaylea wasn't quite as tired so we logged into our Time Warner account and I let her watch a show from home while I read a book.

Maine

Kaylea & I headed to the Great State of Maine this past weekend.  Most people don't know it, but I went to school in Maine my first semester of college.  Jordy was stationed in Winter Harbor, so I wanted to be close to him.  We were still about 90 minutes away if I remember correctly.

I've had some SkyMiles burning a hotel in my pocket and when the days were blacked out, I knew it was a great idea to visit my college roommate.

This was my first time flying alone with Kaylea.  I was a little worried about travelling with her and our luggage and the car seat, but the trip was pretty uneventful.  We arrived in Maine and the airport was so small that there was no shuttle to the rental car.  We grabbed lunch at McDonald's and headed toward Corinth, where my friends live.

This was the first time I got to meet Melissa & Justin's kids. Melissa was my college roommate.  We share the same birth month, both grew up as only children, both of our mom's had breast cancer at the same time, and we have kids that are 5 weeks apart.  Brenden is about a month older than Kaylea and Cameron is 7 months.  The kids bickered some, but eventually played well together.

She had gotten a craft together for the kids and we ordered pizza and attempted a movie night, but the kids weren't too into it.  Brenden went to bed pretty early, so Kaylea and I got some time playing together down stairs before she finally crashed!

Random Friday Fun - Haircut/TOMO

Friday night Kaylea had a hair appointment.  It takes a while to convince her to get a trim, but I finally did.  She decided she wanted to have it shampooed this time.  When we walked in she told her stylist, Alysha, I want you to shampoo, cut, and braid my hair!  Despite the look on her face, she seemed to like having her hair washed. We got about an inch cut off, but you can't really tell :)

After the haircut, we decided to try Tomo for the first time.  I didn't know if Kaylea would like it, but I thought for sure she would like the experience.  The cook did not disappoint!  She talked his ear off and he played along.  When he got out the eggs to make the rice, she asked if he was going to make her a scrambled egg - he wasn't planning to, but he cracked another and made her one and tossed it on her plate!  She loved the fire (the kid across from us cried).  She ate chicken nuggets, but tried the rice.  We had an awesome family night out.

Happy Halloween 2013

Wow!  Halloween was one confusing event this year.  Some cities changed trick or treat to Wednesday, some to Friday, some said Wednesday or Friday, and some didn't care.  In the end, I think our city ended up trick or treating on Thursday & Friday.  We decided to venture out in the drizzle on Halloween.  We headed out with Mimi around 6pm and lasted close to an hour.  Instead of being Ariel, like she had at other events, Kaylea decided she wanted to be a bride.  We used her HHC princess dress and added a bouquet of flowers.  We also sprayed her hair red before heading out.  She seemed to have a great time.  Jordy missed the obligatory Halloween picture so I can't do a comparison from each year :)

Friends

We planned a last minute get together with friends on Friday. I didn't know if we could fit everyone in the house, but they made it. We picked up the Spaghetti Shop for dinner and then the kids played outside, we roasted marshallows over the firepit, and then we played inside. I'm glad to have friends who love to get together. It makes our weekends fun & exhausting!
