First Snow Day - In November!

We woke up Monday to snow!  I can't believe they already missed a day of school in November. Kaylea got to hang out with daddy all day.  He sent me a few pictures and it looks like they had a pretty good day.  I know Kaylea was excited to not have to go to school.

It’s a little early in the season, but Friday afternoon we headed to French Lick to ride the Polar Express to the North Pole.  We went with our group of friends.  It was a great time.  You ride the train and they read the book.  There are Elves on the train to serve hot chocolate and cookies (made by Mrs. Claus).  While at the North Pole, Santa hops aboard the train.  He makes his way through the cars and greets each kid with a silver bell.  The kids dance and sing in the aisles and enjoy the ride on the train.

After we made it back to French Lick, we had dinner at Chicago’s Pizza.  It must have been a good time because Kaylea fell asleep on the way home and went straight to bed when we got home.

Festival of the Arts

Last Saturday we went with our Girl Scout troop to Festival of the Arts in Downtown Louisville.  In my opinion, it was a little boring, but Kaylea said she had fun.  We watched a children’s band, went to the YPAS for a performance, and then we had lunch at McDonald’s.  I got a life lesson that day.  I was able to have lunch with a mom and her two children and be a bright spot in their day.  Our third even was Fish Tales.  Kaylea looked extremely bored, but she said she really liked it.

Parent-Teacher Conference

Last week we attended our first parent teacher conference for Kaylea.  It was the fastest 15 minutes ever.  The teacher went through a check-list and Kaylea was on level for every area.  Mrs. Edelen also went over what she would be expected to know during the next quarter.

Mrs. Edelen told us that Kaylea is in the highest of 5 reading groups.  She said Kaylea gets along with everyone and is always willing to help out. She commented that she give a good effort on all of her work and that she is well behaved. She said she can tell Kaylea enjoys school.  I had to laugh, because Kaylea is a people pleaser, but I’m not sure she loves attending school.

Overall, I was very pleased with her progress.  My heart swelled because I am so proud of her.  I was concerned about her reading before walking in.  I was also concerned about her having a brand new teacher.  I was impressed and could tell that she likes her job and most important to me, cares about the kids.  I can’t wait to see what else she learns this year.

Fall Party

We invited some friends for a play date/Fall Party. We only ended up having one kid from Kaylea's class show up, but we had some others come for the fun.  We did a craft, decorated cupcakes, ate pizza, jumped on the trampoline, and played dress up.  I would say it was a successful night.

Kaylea had her friend Lucy spend the night after the party. They play very well together.  They stayed up pretty late and got up pretty early, but had a great time playing together.

Happy Halloween

Halloween was on a Friday this year, so we were excited.  It was so warm earlier in the week that we were looking forward to beautiful weather, but that didn't happen. We made the most of it anyway.  We invited over grandparents (Nana and Bud), Trina & Mikey, and ate dinner before hitting the streets with the neighborhood kids.  Kaylea had fun, but it was cold and we were all ready to call it quits in less than 45 minutes.  That didn't keep us from playing back at the house.  We kept the party going for a couple hours before calling it a night.  It was fun.  Kaylea picked her own costume this year.  She likes to watch the Wizard of Oz, so I'm guessing that is why.  She had also mentioned being a vampire cheerleader, so who knows what was going through her little head.

School Party

Kaylea's class had a fall party on Friday 10/31 and I was lucky enough to attend.  I have been working from Jeffersonville, Indiana 2 days a week, so it is easier for me to run by the school if I need to stop in.  The room mom did a great job planning the party.  We had plenty to do and plenty of snacks.  Kaylea and I brought the cupcakes.  I am glad that as a working mom, I am still able to participate in these things.  She was so happy to see me when I arrived and I had fun.

Trick or Treat at Grant Line

We participated in our first Halloween even the week before Halloween at Grant Line.  They had trick or treat at the school.  We trick or treated our ways through the hallways as many of the teachers donated their time to hand out candy.  We had dinner at the school (Domino's Pizza) and also visited the book fair.
