saturday night play date

Who knew you could have this much fun on a Saturday night? Jordy and I decided to make no major plans for the weekend, but if you know me, I don't do well without plans. So, we decided to have a kiddie & parent play date. Kaylea hadn't felt too great at the end of the week so I was a little worried about how she would react, but she did great. Teagan, Lucas, and Kaidyn all came over to play. We ordered Wick's pizza and watched them play. Kaylea loved having someone to ride on the teeter totter with her. She also really enjoyed having someone her own size in the bouncy house. I may have a video or two to post later. I think she said "mine" a few times, but a lot less often than normal.

The other day Kaylea got into my drawer and pulled out my stash of "blow" money. She is a smart girl. She didn't want to give it back.

talking in short sentences

I am amazed each day by Kaylea's vocabulary and her ability to put together phrases. I try to get video of them as often as possible, but I can't catch it all. I thought I would try to write down some of her favorites.

I get it.
All Right (followed by clapping)

What's that?

Where Did It Go?

I awnt it (I want it).

Go downstairs.

Drop it (to the Doodle).

dinner with kaidyn

Kaidyn came over for dinner the other night. Kaylea was wild and crazy and acting like she was in the terrible 2's. She did not want to share anything. However, I did get this picture of the two of them on the couch. The crazy thing is - Kaylea really loves Kaidyn. The next day on the way to "school" she kept saying Kaidyn's name. She has these fits occasionally, but I really think she didn't feel too well. She doesn't usually go all night.

playing in the snow

I've avoided taking Kaylea out to play in the snow this year, but today was the day we went out for fun. Kaylea took a later nap today, but when she woke up, she was ready to go play in the snow. We bundled up and went outside. At first, she didn't know what to think. I gave her a squirt bottle filled with red colored water. She looked at it, but wasn't highly interested. I tried to pack a snowball to throw, but the snow wasn't good for that. I just started throwing the snow up in the air. Kaylea thought this was hilarious. Her giggles were priceless. She really liked standing on the ice and falling down on the driveway. She kept telling daddy that the ice was hers and wanting him to move. She lasted longer than I thought. She decided she wanted to walk down the hill out back and did a face plant :) Needless to say, she didn't like it. We brought her inside, got warm, and drank hot chocloate. I think she will like playing in the snow!

18 month appointment

Kaylea had her 18 month well check today and it's safe to say she's one healthy little lady. She is developmentally on track and growing like she should. We took her to McDonalds this morning for "cakes." It was my way of apologizing for the upcoming shots. As you can see, she thinks she's a big girl. She wants to eat on her own and she didn't want a high chair. We got to the doctor's office at 10 am and we were back there quickly. Kaylea was pretty good. She weighed 22 pounds and 4.5 ounces (20th percentile) and she was 32 inches long (60th percentile). We were prepared for the worst, as I have been told this appointment is BAD. However, we were pleasantly shocked. Kaylea cried a little when the doctor listended to her heartbeat. Then came the shot! Mom came prepared. Kaylea got her shot, cried, and I handed her a chocolate chip cookie. The tears were turned off and she was a happy girl. It's hard to believe she's already been a part of our lives for 18 months.

painting

Kaylea & I did a little painting tonight after dinner. I failed to take a picture of the final project, but it was pretty cute. I didn't help her at all. She did end up with some paint in her hair, so we had bath time afterward.

happy 1/2 birthday kaylea jordyn

I can't believe how quickly time passes with a little girl. It's hard to believe she is already 18 months old, but she is. Here are some things we want to remember about this age -

  1. You repeat everything, and everyone comments on it. It doesn't matter what we say, you try to repeat it. I call you a mocking bird.
  2. You are saying 2-3 word sentences such as, "where did it go," "I'll get it," and "What's that?"
  3. You have at least 12 teeth (it's difficult to tell because you won't let me in there to see).
  4. You love books - sometimes you read them to us and sometimes we read them to you.
  5. We cannot get you to eat table food. You will eat some things, but you are still caught up on baby food.
  6. You love cats, even though we don't have one anymore.
  7. You love the doodle. When we go somewhere and she is not there, you are often looking for her.
  8. You have recently started not needing as much sleep and are waking up way too early. You usually go to bed between 7:30 and 8:00 and are awake by 6:00 or 6:30.
  9. You take 1 nap a day (about 2 hours).
  10. You love to play!
  11. You love your daycare. You are happy to see us when we pick you up, but you are always smiling and having a good time when we get there.
  12. Your favorite songs - twinkle twinkle, row your boat, itsy bitsy spider, ring around the rosey.
  13. Your favorite shows - Sponge Bob, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Timmy Time
  14. Your favorite books - anything with picture of animals or food
  15. Your favorite toys - playhouse, grill & kitchen, ball pit
  16. Your favorite food/snacks - cakes (sometime you wake up chanting cakes, cakes, cake), cookie, grilled cheese, mac & cheese, and oatmeal. I told your dad the other day that I think food is always on your mind. Out of the blue you will just start saying cookies.
  17. We are amazed by how smart you are. You keep us on our toes and we can't wait to see how much you grow by your next half birthday.

my addiction - etsy

I admit it - I am completely addicted to Etsy and spend a lot of $$$ on the site. Anything I can possibly think of to purchase is there and can be personalized. I haven't been able to find a small pillow and pillow case that I really like for Kaylea. She uses one at day care, but we really can't wash it and I don't care for it all that much. So, where do you look? Etsy, of course. We bought her the pillow below. It's cats on one side and puppies on the other side. I like it so much that we bought another one - Elmo on one side and Sponge Bob on the other. She is in love with that one, as well. I should probably block that site from my computer.

glasses

Kaylea love glasses. I think it because so many people we know wear them. She is always trying to take them off of your face and of course, that is a word she says all of the time. Today, I went shopping with my mom and she insisted on getting a pair for Kaylea (probably because hers were bent after watching her this morning). Kaylea loved them! She has been wearing them or carrying them around the house.

cakes

If you know our girl, you know she loves cakes! She wakes up in the morning sometimes and starts chanting, "cakes, cakes, cakes." She is actually referring to pancakes, but nonetheless. Last night, I needed to make cupcakes for a part at our house on Saturday. I thought Kaylea would like to help. She put the cupcake liners in the pan and then helped mix the batter. Even though it was late, I promised her she could have a cupcake when they were finished. I kept my word and she loved it. She even decided to share it with her daddy and the doodle.

swim lessons (cancelled)

Today was supposed to be Kaylea's first swim class, but the instructor had a little misunderstanding and didn't show up. I wasn't very happy, but mostly because Kaylea saw the water and wanted to get in. I only wanted to get in the therapy pool (it is much warmer). You know my theory - you have to ask! They let us in the therapy pool. Kaylea had a blast. We may need a pool. She liked going under water. She liked blowing bubbles. She liked the steps. She LOVES swimming!

chuck e cheese

Our friends, Erin & Chris, were taking their son to Chuck E Cheese last week and invited us to go. We were disappointed that we couldn't join them, but thought it was a great idea, so we decided to take Kaylea Thursday morning. We were some of the first in the door. It shocked me that she didn't love the rides. She actually hated all of them with the exception of this "fun bus." However, she was really into collecting tickets. I probably shouldn't have made her feed them to the ticket eater. This did not make her very happy. Anyway, the trip didn't go exactly as I had expected, but she did have a great time running around the place.
