scissors & glue

I haven't been very good about taking pictures this month.  I know I will be better next month since we are heading to Disney World! We spent the weekend in Southern Indiana, even though we were all 3 a little sick.

We auditioned for Family Feud - I don't know if we will be selected, but we played well (we swept the board and then we stole from the other team) and we played enthusiastically.  I am hoping we get a trip to Atlanta this spring to film a show!

Kaylea has been wanting to use the scissors lately, and while I let her use them, if we are watching, it makes me nervous.  They use scissors at school, so she really wants to use them at home.  She wants to cut like Miss Shelia.  Last night, I took Kaylea out shopping for some scissors and new art supplies.  We found the perfect pair of scissors for her little hands and she put them to use when we got home. We did a few art projects and she glued together several pieces of paper :)  What a fun night!

sickie

My girl is sick.  Jordy spent the night out of town for work and when I woke up this morning, she seemed fine.  She ate an entire bagel and drank her milk and I took her to school.  I had work and 2 doctor appointments scheduled.  Just about 45 minutes after I dropped her off I got a phone call saying I needed to come pick her up.  She had a fever and runny nose.

I cancelled my appointments, made an appointment for her, and picked her up.  We got in some much needed snuggle time.  We watched a lot of Sprout TV and enjoyed cuddling in my bed.

By the time we got to her appointment her temperate was 102.6 (and that was with tylenol).  There wasn't a lot for the doctor to say, except what is "isn't."  It isn't pneumonia, it isn't bronchitis, or the flu. We also had a nice discussion about allergies and potential testing, but I'm not sure we are ready for that just yet.

I feel so blessed to have such an awesome mom.  I called her at 9am this morning and she was ready to ride back with Jordy by noon.  She came back to stay with Kaylea so neither of us had to take off work and Kaylea could get some great loving.  I have plenty of days I could take off  (about 4 months of sick leave and that doesn't include my vacation) and I don't mind using them when I need to...ok, I hate using them, but I don't mind using them for Kaylea, but it's awesome to have Mimi come stay with her.

She seemed to perk up as soon as she saw Mimi - I hope it continues through tomorrow.

moments

As you all know, we have officially declared Kaylea potty trained.  Every night after being put in her crib for bed she yells, "mama, I have to go potty."  Obviously, I go get her and let her go.  Then she tells me, "you have to get out of here and close the door so I can have some space."  Really?  I wonder if she would consider returning the favor?

we love visitors

This past weekend we were lucky to have more out of town guests come stay with us.  Erin, Chris, and Lucas came to spend the weekend with us.  Originally, we had planned to go to Chicago for the weekend, but decided that might not be the best idea - too cold, Erin was very pregnant, and I wasn't sure the kids wouldn't have just as much fun at our house!

We met for dinner on Friday night.  It seems we have 2 go to places in Lafayette.  For a nice dinner, we go to Mountain Jacks.  They have some of the best steaks around.  For a dive, we go to XXX Burger (side note, we went to both).  After dinner, Kaylea wanted to take Lucas to jump on the trampoline at the mall.  We had been talking about going earlier in the week.  Erin didn't think that Lucas would do it, but he did.  Jordy was trying to get Kaylea to flip, and I must tell you, this was one nervous mama, because she was trying to!  If she could have put it all together, she would have flipped.

Kaylea insisted on Lucas taking a bath with her - I never dreamed I would be dealing with those issues this early ;)

Saturday we went to Jump It.  The kids had a blast - I think Lucas could have jumped all day.  Kaylea ate corn dog (one of the many new foods she has been willing to try lately) and was pretty much done after that.

We came back to the house and all got in a good nap.  Erin & I went to the local candy store.  It is one of the oldest operating soda fountains in Indiana.  The cokes (diet and regular) are beyond amazing!  We picked up XXX burger before heading to the mall to let the kids jump again.

I was worn out this weekend - I don't know what it was.  Jordy and I were able to take a nap everyday, but I was ready for bed by 10:00!  Erin, Chris, and Lucas hung out with Kaylea Sunday morning before they left and let us workout.  I cannot tell you how much we appreciated this.  Getting a workout in on the weekend allows us to sleep in one day during the week.

It is always awesome to have friendly faces in Lafayette - we had a great time and can't wait to do it again!

love how kaylea made a bed for her and one for lucas -

will you be my valentine

Poor, Kaylea!  She woke up sick on Valentine's Day.  I felt so bad because they were having a party at school, complete with a card exchange, and she had to miss it.  I debated just sending her, but she had a fever so I didn't want to risk her getting other people sick.  Jordy took the day off so I didn't have to miss work (I hate unscheduled absences and I planned to take off Thursday if necessary).   He is such an awesome daddy!

We planned on having a party for 3 that evening and that's just what we did.  We had a party with pizza, cupcakes, and sparkling grape juice.  Jordy and I bought Kaylea 2 new DVDs, candy, and some new books.  She loves to read.

Jordy and I don't usually celebrate Valentine's Day, but this year we decided to.  I bought Jordy a TV (lol - it is a Valentine's present and anniversary present) and an iTunes card.  Jordy got me some flowers, chocolate, and a pedicure.  It was nice to celebrate this cheesy holiday.

moments

When I picked Kaylea up from day care last week Miss Lizzy told me that she needed to tell me what Kaylea told her at lunch.  She said, "we have protein at daddy's house and it's gross!"  Really?  Yes, we have been drinking protein for breakfast and the other morning Kaylea wanted to know what I was drinking.  I told her it was protein and it was gross, but that she could try it if she wanted to.  She tried it and said it was gross.  How funny is this?

mimi's back!

After a busy and emotional week, we got to spend some time in Lafayette with Mimi.  She came up on Thursday night and went to gymnastics with me and Kaylea.  She watched Kaylea while Jordy and I drove to pick up my dad's truck from Indy.  We enjoyed some Cheeseburger in Paradise (since we were so close).

On Saturday night we had dinner club in Lafayette.  We hated missing dinner club in Southern Indiana, but my mom had already planned on visiting, and we took advantage of it.  Owen came over and played with Kaylea and my mom wore them both out -haha!

I got spend a little bit of time with my mom.  We played Rummy on Thursday night after Kaylea went to bed.  She went to the grocery with me and helped me cook lunch today.  I like having my mom here and always miss her when she leaves.

super bowl sunday

We decided to take a "cheat" night around here on Super Bowl Sunday and eat some bad foods.  We had buffalo chicken dip, homemade pizza rolls, assorted fruits, and chocolate chip cheeseball.  Each of these were so yummy.  Kaylea even got in on the action and ate some of the pizza rolls (after picking out the pepperonis).  We watched the game, while Kaylea watched Barney.  It was a pretty relaxing day.

i think we got this...

potty thing down.  Even though she was still having accidents (with #2), we celebrated with her potty party, but I'm starting to feel confident that we can call this girl potty trained.  Not only is she pooping and peeing on the potty, she is telling us that she needs to go.  She loves these flushable toddler wipes (although I think I'm going to go with the parents choice brand).  She insists on using one to wipe.  We don't even have to bribe her anymore.  I'm so proud of our girl!  It is bittersweet, because it is just another sign that she isn't a baby.
