Spring Break - Slumber Party & Egg Hunt

Kaylea had a slumber party with her girl scout troop on Friday.  I didn't get any pictures, but it looked like she had a great time.  They colored Easter eggs, had an egg hunt, painted nails, had dinner, and did some crafts.

When we picked her up on Saturday we took her to an egg hunt in New Albany.  I thought it was great.  She wasn't too thrilled because she didn't win a prize.  She was tired from the slumber party.  She never did take a nap, but she did have some rest time.

You're Hired!

Jordy had to stay in DC one night longer than me and Kaylea for a STEM job fair.  He told me things were looking good, but no one had called yet.  When he arrived at the airport I saw an email from Arlington Schools asking to interview him next week.  I started to tell him I was researching the school and he called and told me not to waste my time because he already signed a contract with Prince Williams County Public Schools.  We were very happy!  It all happens in God's timing and his timing just happened to match ours this time!

House Hunting

Kaylea and Jordy swam just about every night, so she was a happy girl.  We jumped at the trampoline park twice and went to play laser tag for the first time.  We did a little bit of shopping and took a ride on the metro.

The first day of house hunting wasn't very promising.  I was talking about renting.  The second day went much better and we actually found a house.  It is directly across from the Lorton train station.  I should be about 35-40 minutes to work. We didn't know where Jordy would be working, but all prospects seemed to point in the direction of Virginia.

Tooth Fairy

The morning we arrived in DC, Kaylea bit into an apple and told us her tooth was loose.  It was really loose.  It wasn't coming out that morning, but we knew it wouldn't last long.  We headed to look at houses.  We had 10 houses to look at starting at noon.  We went through them and were finished by 2:45.  Kaylea did excellent!

After looking at houses, we went to Ruby Tuesday to eat.  We could tell Kaylea was getting tired.  We had to wake up at 4:30 in the morning.  Jordy took her to the car and I get a text and a picture of her tooth being out!  You can tell she was crying in the picture, but she was so excited.  She just kept talking and talking about the tooth fairy coming to visit that night.

The tooth fairy wasn't prepared.  Especially since she wrote a note asking for a picture.  The tooth fairy said she would try to remember next time, but she didn't have one with her.  The tooth fairy left $5 and Kaylea was very excited.

The Start of Spring Break

Jordy had to head to DC before me and Kaylea because of a job fair on Saturday.  After dropping him at the airport, we hurried home so Kaylea would have her friend Emily over.  The girls played and ate dinner and then we headed out.  I took them to have their nails painted and then we went to the Dollar Tree to get some craft supplies.  They came back to the house and did crafts for over and hour.  They finished the night putting on a play and doing dance and gymnastics.  Kaylea and I took Emily home and made a quick trip to the grocery store before heading to bed.

Saturday we planned a very busy day.  I ran in the Rodes City Run 10k with a friend.  After, Kaylea and I went to the library for some new books, delivered our final order of Girl Scout cookies, had our toes painted, and went to church.  Trina came over to play with Kaylea that evening and I had dinner with friends.  We tried to get to bed early so we could get ready for our trip.

Princess for a Day

Kaylea and I attended The Princess for a Day event hosted by New Albany Theatre Arts Department.  The event included lunch, a VIP ticket to the showing of Cinderella, primping for the ball (salon and nails), dancing with Prince Christopher, wand making, and a photo with Cinderella.  The day started around 9:00 and we didn't get home until 4:30.  We had a really great time hanging out together.  Kaylea definitely gets into things like this.

Derby Dinner

Jordy had to work late on Monday and I noticed they added a showing of the Tooth Fairy.  Kaylea really enjoys seeing plays and live performances so I knew she would be excited at the opportunity to attend.  We had a great time.  She actually wanted me to style her hair while we waited for the show to start.  It wasn't the best show, in my opinion, but it was great for her age.

Field Trip

I love my job and the flexibility it provides.  Wednesday morning I was able to go to my mom's oncologist appointment and attend Kaylea's field trip at Slugger Field.  I was at work by 10:30, but it is nice to have a boss who understands the importance of family.  The field trip was a medical demonstration.  It lasted about an hour and Kaylea said she enjoyed it.  It was "children & Hospital Week" and the exhibits focused on fitness and healthy eating and the kids also learned about participating in health & safety activities.  They toured a mock hospital which included an Emergency Room, X-ray Department, and surgery area.

Weekend Fun

This past weekend was busy.  We decided while we are in this nearly empty apartment we would try to keep busy.   Friday night we had dinner with friends at the Olive Garden and then went to play at Puzzle Dome.  Kaylea was able to bring a friend.  She decided to bring Ella, our old neighbor.  We went with the Hamm Family.  The kids were excellent at dinner.  Puzzle Dome is a little lame, but not compared to our empty house.  The kids played on bounceys and inflatable slides, video games, and did the zip line.  Both girls were tired by the end of the night.

Saturday morning I ran the Anthem 5K.  I didn't train nearly as long or as hard as years past.  However, I was thrilled with my time.  There was still snow on the ground while running.  We went to the library and got a library card.  Kaylea checked out 11 books.  She was excited.  That evening, Kaylea went to Nana's to spend the night and we went to the last UL game of the year.  We ended the night at Applebee's attempting to figure out what was left to do for Jordy's potential jobs.

Sunday was awesome.  We finally got to see the Zuercher Family.  We met in Columbus for brakfast and then let the kids play at The Commons.  The Kid Commons had free admission the day we were there.  It is three floors of interactive fun - art, science, bubbles, an explorahome site.  Finally, we waited forever to have ice cream at Zaharakos.  They quoted us 30 minutes and we waited over an hour for a table.  It is an ice cream parlor with stained glass, carved oak, and marble.  We were't overly impressed.  However, it was awesome to spend time with our friends.  We left our house at 10am and didn't get back until 6pm.  With the time change, we were exhausted and went to bed early!

Catching Up

Kaylea got to have her sleepover despite the threat of snowy weather.  All of the kids were able to make it and all were picked up.  We did have to cancel our trip to Indy the next morning.  The kids came over.  We had pizza for dinner and decorated some cookies, but otherwise, I didn’t plan very much.  The kids had a great time and stayed up late.  They played dress up, spies, and did crafts.  It was definitely the highlight of Kaylea’s weekend.  She was definitely tired the next day as she took a 2 hour nap.

Wednesday night Jordy and I headed to Longhorn for dinner while my mom hung out with Kaylea.  Jordy and I ended up inviting a homeless man to dinner.  It wasn’t the dinner we were planning to have, but it was nice and it felt good to help.  When we got home that night we found out our rental house in Jeff had sold!  Yikes!  We were supposed to move in Thursday.  Life works out and we ended up renting a 2 bedroom apartment near Christian Academy.  They do a 3 month lease.  Thursday the packers came and packed everything we are putting in storage.  Friday, the moving truck arrived at 8am and started loading all of our belonging.  They are now sitting in a storage unit somewhere in Sterling, Virginia.  We won’t see them again for another 60-75 days.

I was worried about living in the empty house for 4 nights, but was happy that Kaylea had some plans for the weekend.  Friday night after everything was loaded, we headed to Beth, Bath, and Beyond to get a few last minute items to make our beds more comfortable.  We had dinner at Zaxby’s.  Then we split up.  Jordy borrowed a card table from the Hamm’s , which will serve as our kitchen table for 3 months. Kaylea and I went to the Jeff rental house to pick up our clothes and items for the house. We were all so tired the first night we fell asleep fast.

I had previously planned a spa day (my Valentine’s Day gift) for Saturday.  Kaylea was supposed to go to a sleepover at a friend’s house, but her friend was sick.  I wondered what we were going to do.  We had a few errands to run after church and we had dinner at Ruby Tuesdays.  When we came back, we played dance/gymnastics and just goofed off together.  We didn’t even miss the TV or toys.

Sunday, Kaylea slept in.  We made biscuits and gravy and instead of watching TV while she ate, we read 4 chapters of her Junie B library book.  She did some crafts and then we headed to Nana & Pop’s for lunch.  Jordy had to do some work that morning at school so we had some quality time.  Sunday night Kaylea sold Girl Scout cookies with her troop at Walmart.  Jordy went with her and said they did a great job and had a fun time.
