Long Weekend - Busch Gardens

Thursday night after work, Kaylea and I took off and headed toward Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.  I took the day off on Friday.  I originally planned to take off on Thursday, too, but we had a big town hall meeting, so I decided I needed to be there.  It took us forever to get there.  We had a hotel in Newport News.  It was a little further east than I would have liked, but I got a great government rate.  It was about 9:30 when we arrived.  Kaylea had 30 minutes to swim and she took full advantage of it.  After swimming, we attempted an early bedtime so we could wake up for some fun.

We spent a lot of Saturday at Busch Gardens.  Kaylea was about 1/2'' away from being able to ride the 48'' rides.  I felt bad for her.  A lot of the rides she was able to ride, were below her thrill level.  However, we ended up finding enough stuff to do to keep us busy until about 4:30.

After Busch Gardens, we headed to the Outlet Malls. I wanted to take her to Build a Bear.  I had a coupon in the mail, but of course they wouldn't take it because this was an outlet store.  Of course, what Kaylea wanted as not on sale.  Kaylea built the bear of her dreams and we left for dinner at the Olive Garden.

I thought we were both exhausted, but of course, my child with endless energy was not tired. We returned to the hotel and played for a little while.  We had fun.  We made hot chocolate and just spent quality time together.

The next morning, we started our journey home.  We stopped to shop, we stopped to pick up a picture, and we stopped to eat.  It took us awhile to get home, but we enjoyed the moments.

One of the things I have wanted to do since I arrived in DC was a Segway tour.  We finally had the opportunity.  It was everything I hoped for.  I found the deal on Living Social.  It was perfect.  We started at 6 PM and ended around 8:30 PM.  We got to see most things on the national mall.  It was excellent.

Weekend in Review

It is getting harder and harder to update the blog.  I'm not sure what it is, but I try not to take my phone and then I forget my camera and I fail to get pictures.  Have no fear - we are enjoying everyday of this life.

Friday night after work we went to the Melting Pot in Arlington.  The food was as good as always.  Kaylea ate a ton of steak and we enjoyed breaking Mimi into her first experience at the Melting Pot.

Saturday morning we hung around the house.  I played with Kaylea and got some errands out of the way.  We played in a Euchre tournament Saturday night.  It was a great time.  Would you believe Jordy Struck was the champion?  He took home $150.  Kaylea had a babysitter and had a blast playing until 11:30 PM.

Sunday we got up early and went to church.  I think we found a church we can return to.  Kaylea actually went to the kid's class, so that made me feel good.  She asked if we could go back next week and she put back some of the money she had earned to give to Jesus.  After church Jordy and I completed a mystery shop. We came home.  Kaylea and I made chocolate chip cookies.  We ended the evening with dinner at Chili's.  The weekend was great and I'm living for the next one.

Weekend Update

I want to make sure I get some one on one time with Kaylea the rest of the weekends in the summer.  She loves seeing her daddy, but she gets a lot of time with him and missing seeing me.  Friday, when I got home from work, I told Jordy to go see a movie he has been wanting to see.  I knew the 4-H fair was going on in Fairfax County and I assumed Kaylea would have a great time.  We headed to the 4H Fair at Frying Pan Park.  We stayed for over 2 hours.  I bought 72 ride tickets and we used every last one.  We looked at a few animals, rode rides, and played a couple of games before heading home.  We stopped for a late night dinner on the way home.  In the car on the way home Kaylea said, “It feels like we were at the fair all day.”

Saturday, we had a yard sale.  We really want to be able to park in the garage when winter gets here.  This is was the first step.  Kaylea set up her first lemonade stand and I must say, she is quite the sales person.  She asked every potential customer if they would like to buy a glass of lemonade.  She sold a few stuffed animals, but started giving the stuffed animals away to any kid who made a lemonade purchase.  She ended up making $26.  She was very excited.  Mommy was impressed that she started at 8AM and lasted until 12PM.  We did good at the yard sale.

Saturday evening Jordy and I went out of dinner and went to a Meet-Up to meet some other adults.  We played Cards Against Humanity and Killer Bunnies.  Cards Against Humanity was more fun than the other.  It was nice to get out and meet some other adults in the area.  I think we hit it off with a few other couples so I’m hoping to get together again.

Sunday was interesting.  We really didn’t have any major plans.  Jordy and I ended up attempting to install our new microwave.  We got it installed, but I’m not sure we did it correctly.  In the afternoon, Kaylea and I went to another meetup and played at the waterpark.  Most of the kids at the Meetup were younger than her, so we really didn’t do any bonding, but we did have a good time swimming together.  I always remind her this is true love because I don’t love swimming J  We ended the night with a family mystery shop.  It’s always great when you can get dinner for 4 for less than $8 (especially in Northern Virginia).
